Abstract: A storage system for hazardous gas using metal or complex material canisters requires a valve assembly (10, 80) to control safely the delivery of gas, e.g., hydrogen, to the application (fuel cell, etc.). The shut-off valve assembly (120) is in sequential series with the flow control valve (100). The shut-off valve has two purposes, including providing a secondary seal (120) during storage outside the application system (during transportation, storage, etc.) that reduces the risk of undesirable hazardous gas release, and to prevent access to the primary seal or flow control valve (100) and thus prevent the tampering with the internal mechanism and thereby avoids safety hazards. The shut-off valve (100) is preferably opened by a pin (40) that depresses a secondary seal stopper (128) when the connection is made. The flow control valve (100) is magnetically actuated by a magnetic flux generated by a coil (60). When an electric signal is sent to the coil (60), the armature is moved into the open position to open the primary seal (100), thereby to allow gas to flow through the valve into the application system.
