Abstract: A hybrid modular construction system which overcomes some of the setbacks of conventional steel modular construction, employs at least two types of prefabricated modules, alpha modules (100) and beta modules (200); the support beams (7) and columns (3) of the previously installed modules can assist with load bearing of a slab (4) from a beta module (200), eliminating the need for duplicate sets of support columns (3). Continuously joining the floor slabs (5) of adjacent modules creates a continuous fire-resistant structure. Novel connections between the columns (3) of upper and lower support columns (3) using grouting (14) and metal bars (11) permit the use of support columns (3) positioned at locations in addition to the corners.
