A resource is assigned to each of a plurality of distributed, independent hardware resources in a base station, the resource comprising a sequence of radio frequency resources that follow a hopping sequence. Hardware resources are identified that are available to transmit a page via their respective assigned first resource. One of the identified available hardware resources from which to transmit the page is selected to transmit the page via the resource to which the selected hardware resource is assigned. The page is received at a user terminal via the resource; and a page response is transmitted via another resource to the selected hardware resource in response to the page.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for distinguishing between two or more signals, each associated with a particular remote terminal, in a shared-channel wireless communication system. A communication device, for example, a base station, causes an offset (e.g., a time and/or a frequency offset) between the transmission of first and second uplink signals that simultaneously occupy the same channel and that are transmitted by first and second remote user terminals, respectively. According to one aspect of the invention, the offset is relatively small enough such that the first and second uplink signals remain within the same channel, but relatively large enough such that based on the offset, the communication device may identify that the first uplink signal is associated with the first remote user terminal.
Abstract:
A data stream is transmitted between a base station and user terminal. A first resource that is available to transmit a page is selected at the base station and the page transmitted from the base station via the first resource. The page is received at the user terminal via the first resource and a second resource that is available to transmit a page response is selected at the user terminal. A page response is transmitted from the user terminal via the second resource in response to the page. A data stream is then transmitted between the base station and user terminal via a third resource. In one embodiment, the first, second and third resources utilize the same sequence of radio frequency resources that follow a hopping sequence among a set of available radio frequency resources. In one embodiment, at least two of the first, second and third resources utilize the same sequence of radio frequency resources. In yet another embodiment, the resources utilize different sequences of radio frequency resources.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the present invention comprises transmitting a broadcast burst in a broadcast channel from a base station of a radio communications system. The invention further comprises receiving a request burst from a user terminal, and transmitting a message burst from the base station to the user terminal from which the request was received. The message burst includes a description of the channels available on the radio communications system for receiving messages from user terminals.
