Abstract: Inflatable airbag (26) for a vehicle (18) which is deployed in the event of an accident involving the vehicle (18) to provide protection for an occupant of the vehicle (18) includes a plurality of ribbons (32) coupled together to define an enclosed, fluid-retaining space and a layer of film (44, 46) laminated on at least one of an outer side of the woven ribbons (32) and an inner side of the ribbons (32). The ribbons (32) may be made from polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester or polyamide and the layers of film (44, 46) may be made from polyethylene, polyurethane, polyester or polyamide. The ribbons (32) and layers of film (44, 46) may be made of the same or different materials.
