Abstract: A vehicle battery disconnect switch comprises inlet (1) and outlet (3) castings separated by a planar insulating spacer (2). The inlet (1) and outlet (3) castings and spacer (2) are contained within a housing comprising a base moulding (4) and lid (9). Swaging spigots (15) on the inlet castings (1) pass through apertures (21, 35, 43) in the insulating spacer (2) and outlet casting (3) and base (4) to provide a rigidly assembled switch. The inlet casting (1) carries a solenoid actuator (6) and drive circuit (7) for operating a moving blade (5) carrying a contact (51) that cooperates with a fixed contact (34) on the outlet casting (3).

Abstract: A socket for an electrical connector comprises a rigid elongate contact member (1) and a flexible contact member (2). The flexible contact member comprises a first elongate portion (20) that is connected to a second elongate portion (25) via a first hinge position (24). Abstract: An electrical contactor comprises a first electrically conductive cantilevered arm (201) carrying a first contact (203) adjacent its fixed end and a second contact (204) adjacent its free end and a second electrically conductive cantilevered arm (205) carrying a third contact (207) adjacent its fixed end and a fourth contact (208) adjacent its free end. Abstract: In an electrical contactor a first terminal (5) is connected to a pair of contacts (3, 4) on opposite faces of a fixed conductive member (2). A second terminal (6) is connected to a pair of movable arms (7, 8) of electrically conductive material carrying movable contacts (9, 10) at an end remote from the connection to the second terminal (6). The movable arms (7, 8) are arranged in aligned opposition to each other and such that their remote ends are on either side of the fixed member (2) with the movable contacts (9, 10) aligned with the fixed contacts (3, 4). The arrangement of the fixed member (2) and movable arms (7, 8) is such that when the contacts are closed current flowing through the movable arms produces a force that urges the movable arms towards each other thereby increasing the force between the fixed and movable contacts. In such a contacor overload currents cause the contact force to increase due to the attractive electromagnetic force produced between the arms (7, 8) by currents flowing in the same direction in the arms (7, 8).

Abstract: A two-pole contactor includes a contact assembly (24) for making and breaking contact between a pair of fixed contacts (8, 10) at each pole. The contact assembly is a plastics moulding carrying a resiliently supported shorting bar and is coupled to a plunger of a solenoid. In order to make a contact, the plunger accelerates the contact assembly towards the fixed contacts, until the contact bar touches the fixed contacts. The plunger and the remainder of the contact assembly then continues to move through a predetermined distance, loading the resiliently supported shorting bar against the fixed contacts. To break contact, the procedure is reversed. The solenoid has two plungers slidable within a common bore and separated by a compression spring. Permanent magnets situated at each end of the solenoid core induce an attractive force between the plungers. When the separation between the plungers is smaller than a threshold separation, the magnetic attraction overcomes the spring force and the plungers latch together. When the separation between the plungers is greater than the threshold separation, the force exerted by the spring is greater than the magnetic attraction and so the plungers de-latch in a separated position, in which the contacts at both poles of the contactor are open.
