Abstract: An intercept server (3), a delivery server (3), and a messaging server (4) communicate with each other and with network elements such as HLRs and HSSs to achieve versatile routing of messages according to capabilities of the user devices, some of which have software clients The system (1) intercepts (2) messages in-flight;receives (4) messages from the device clients (11), and sends (3) messages for delivery to either devices with clients or without clients. The system uses a data service (8) for message delivery via a data service application if the recipient device is capable of receiving the message in that manner. The system defaults to delivery using a data service provided by the mobile network in which the system resides.
