    Abstract: A portal saver device (14) for installing a flexible cannulated tube (11) at a surgical site. A portal saver device (14) includes an obturator (12). The obturator (12) has an obturator body (24) having a cannulated outer obturator tube (44) extending therethrough. The outer obturator tube (44) has a distal tip (50) with a dilating assembly (52) movable between a collapsed, first configuration and an expanded, second configuration. A shaft expander (42) has a cannulated inner obturator tube (48), which is movable between a first position and a second position within the outer obturator tube (44). In the first position, the inner obturator tube (48) is retracted from the distal tip (50) of the outer obturator tube (44) and the dilating assembly (52) is in the first configuration. In the second position, the inner obturator tube (48) is advanced within the distal tip (50) of the outer obturator tube (44) and the dilating assembly (52) is in the second configuration.

    Abstract: A system and method for cutting soft tissue with a retractable surgical cutting device (10). The device (10) includes a handle (12), an actuator (18) positioned thereon, and a sheath (14) attached thereto, where the sheath (14) surrounds a shaft (4) with a blade (16) attached to the distal end thereof. The device (10) also includes a drive and locking mechanism (100) connected to the actuator (18) and to the shaft (4) within the internal space of the handle (12), wherein the drive and locking mechanism (100) is configured to move the shaft (4) in the first direction and lock the shaft (4) in the shaft first position in response to movement of the actuator (18) in one of the first direction or the second direction, and wherein the drive mechanism (100) is configured to move the shaft (4) in the second direction and lock the shaft (4) in the shaft second position in response to movement of the actuator (18) in the other one of the first direction or the second direction.

    Abstract: A system for a medical device that can operate multiple actuated implements with sophisticated and individual motion profiles using a single user actuator. The system has a handle having a pair of slots for each implement and an actuator positioned in the handle for movement between a first position and a second position that has a groove for each implement. Each implement is coupled to the handle a barrel that is captured in the pair of slots and driven by the groove of the actuator. The shape of the pair of slots and the corresponding groove combine to provide a motion profile for the implement that is independent from any other implement having its own pair of slots and groove. Multiple implements may thus be driven simultaneously and can have complex and coordinated movement based on user operation of the single actuator.

    Abstract: A deployment device for an all suture anchor having a braided anchor and a suture filament extending through the braided anchor. A fork extends longitudinally through the body of the device and is moveable between an extended position and a withdrawn position to position and then release the braided anchor. A ratchet wheel drives a spool coupled to the ratchet wheel by a frangible link to wind up the suture filament to deploy the braided anchor. When sufficient tension is achieved to fully deploy the braided anchor, the frangible link will break, thereby releasing the suture filament to leave the deployed braided anchor in place with the suture filament extending from the pilot hole. All operations are accomplished by one lever that selectively withdraws the fork, rotates the ratchet wheel, and then allows release of the filament with the use of just a single hand.

    Abstract: A portal saver assembly with a dermal fixation device that is removably attached to a length-adjustable portal saver. The portal saver assembly includes a tubular body having a rigid proximal end with threads and a proximal adjustment body having an outer ridge and an inner bore with threads. The threads on the rigid proximal end of the tubular body are configured to mate with the threads on the inner bore of the proximal adjustment body. The portal saver assembly also includes a dermal fixation device with a central bore and a locking mechanism around the central bore. The outer ridge of the proximal adjustment body is removably attached to within the central bore by the locking mechanism.
