Abstract: A joint synchronizer and decoder that implements two decision aided processes, which are referred to as "decision aided candidate selection" and "decision aided synchronization and decoding." Decision aided 'candidate selection may be used to select a carrier frequency offset by selecting among a number of candidates for this parameter based on an indication of decoding success. Decision aided synchronization and decoding may be used for phase tracking based on an indication of decoding success. Although these joint synchronizing and decoding techniques may be implemented together, they may also be implemented independently. The joint synchronizer and decoder may be implemented within a return channel receiver in a DVB-RCS system using turbo coding and quadrature phase shift key (QPSK) data modulation.

Abstract: A method and a device for depositing a metal layer on a non-conducting surface of a substrate. (a) A liquid composition containing metal ions is directed to at least a part of the surface and (b) a reductive agent is directed to at least a part of the surface. The metal ions are reduced in situ into the metallic form in those parts onto which both (a) and (b) have been directed. The reduction reaction and the adherence to the non-conducting surface is supported by treatment with physical energy such as treatment with corona discharge, atmospheric plasma, flame treatment, microwave, infrared light and/or UV light. Selective surface treatment is obtained based on electroless plating whereby the surface is printed on with metal and reducer as ink by conventional printing such as inkjet printing and tampon printing electrodes and conducting surfaces with Cu, Ni, Au and Ag.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method of improving the E s IN 0 ratio performance of a wireless device. The apparatus, system and method include measuring an E s IN 0 ratio in a communicated return link burst, and, upon failure of the E s IN 0 ratio to meet a predetermined threshold, probing for an available switch to a less protested communication mode to improve the E s IN 0 ratio. The probing may include transmitting a full power SYNC burst, measuring the E s IN 0 ratio correspondent to the full power SYNC burst, and comparing the measured E 5 IN 0 ratio correspondent to the full power SYNC burst to the predetermined threshold.
