Abstract: Apparatus and method for producing a high energy marking on a surface (11) of an ophthalmic lens (10) having a low energy surface comprising a surface energizing source, such as a corona discharge source (29), which is directed at an ophthalmic lens (10) and a mask (28) corresponding to the reverse image of the desired marking applied to the lens surface so that the surface energy of the exposed area of the ophthalmic lens is increased and the resulting marking is visible by fogging.
