Abstract: A computer implemented method is provided for monitoring and controlling a plurality of internet protocol (IP) enabled devices (210) on a network. Each of the plurality of IP enabled devices has an internal IP address on the network, but does not have an external IP address for use on the Internet. The method includes the step (315) of performing a port scan to obtain internal IP addresses (317) for the plurality of IP enabled devices on the network. An HTML page (327) is retrieved (325) from each of the plurality of IP enabled devices on the network using the internal IP addresses. A data file name (332) is extracted (330; 430) from each of the retrieved HTML pages and in some embodiments is translated to a new data file name. The method also includes retrieving (335; 435) data from each of the plurality if IP enabled devices on the network as a function of the extracted data file names or using the new data file names. Computer readable storage medium (e.g., 104; 108; 110) and gateway computing devices (100), for example in the form of a plug computer, are also disclosed.
