Abstract: An emergency light adapter (20) is disclosed to illuminate emergency light (22) in the event a main supply interruption should occur. The adapter (20) has a socket (21) which is shaped to be fitted with main light (40), and a fitting (26) which is shaped to be fitted to another light socket. At least an emergency light (22) is placed on the adapter which is controlled and powered by spare power (48). Two operating embodiments are disclosed to operate the adapter. A manual operation is disclosed where the (adapter 20) can operate in a three state manner. Another operation is disclosed for automatic control with a means to test the condition of the spare power (48). A light sensor (51) disables the emergency light function if there is sufficient light in a room other than the emergency light. The light sensor (51) shall enable the emergency light only when there is low light in a room. The light sensor (51) can be used to enable the emergency light to illuminate as night light when there is low light in a room.
