Abstract: A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by a processor of a computing device, cause the processor to provide a usage time setting in a basic input/output system (BIOS) setup menu of the computing device. Further, the non-transitory machine-readable storage medium may include instructions to receive an input to configure the usage time setting in the BIOS setup menu. Furthermore, the non-transitory machine-readable storage medium may include instructions to register a value of the configured usage time setting as a permitted time to operate the computing device in an operating system environment.

Abstract: An electronic device may include a first non-volatile storage device having a first storage region, a second non-volatile storage device having a second storage region, and a processor. The processor may detect a modification to a data attribute, generate a first unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) variable including modified data and previous data associated with the data attribute, and store the first UEFI variable in the first storage region via a first UEFI runtime service. Further, the processor may generate a second UEFI variable to include data indicating the modification to the data attribute and a counter to record boot count. Furthermore, the processor may store the second UEFI variable in the second storage region via the first UEFI runtime service. The processor selectively read, via a second UEFI runtime service, the modified data or previous data from the first storage region based on the second UEFI variable.

Abstract: In example implementations, methods to optimize a BIOS of a computer and an apparatus to perform the same is provided. The method includes detecting a change to the computer. A current BIOS configuration is compared to an optimized BIOS setting associated with the change. A setting of the current BIOS configuration is configured to match a corresponding setting of the optimized BIOS configuration. The computer is then operated with the optimized BIOS configuration associated with the change.
