Abstract: A method of configuring a broadband communications device over a network includes the step of transmitting an initiation signal from the broadband communications device to a protocol server, acquiring from the protocol server addressing information based on the initiation signal, and launching a request signal from the broadband communications device to a configuration system specified by the addressing information. Configuration information for the broadband communications device is received from the configuration system. The broadband communications device is subsequently configured with the configuration information.
