    Abstract: A high capacity, continuous production blast freezer includes an insulated enclosure and a plurality of adjustable product-carrying trolleys, individually moveable with the enclosure from an entrance location to an exit location. A heat exchanger in the form of an evaporator is provided in the enclosure. The mechanical equipment for the refrigeration system can be placed within the enclosure and separated from the freezing cell by a bulkhead. In one embodiment the enclosure is in the form of a container adapted to be transportable by ship, rail or truck. The arrangement of the heat exchanger or evaporator relative to the product carrying devices and the enclosure is designed to maximize the capacity of the heat exchanger and minimize frost formation, while providing for a maximum amount of product space within the enclosure to maximize throughput of the system.

    Abstract: A heat exchanger for an ice machine has the form of a cylinder. In some embodiments, the cylinder is made from an extrusion of a metal such as an aluminum alloy. The heat exchanger includes inner and outer cylindrical walls and one or more refrigeration passages positioned between the inner and outer walls. The inner and outer walls are separated from each other by connecting structures defining the refrigeration passages. The heat exchanger can be extruded as a rectangular panel and subsequently formed into a cylindrical form. Alternatively, the heat exchanger can be extruded as a cylinder, or as an arcuate cylindrical segment in which several of such segments are subsequently joined together (as by welding) into a cylinder. Ice machines that feature ice formation on both the inner and outer walls of the cylinder are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A high capacity, continuous production blast freezer includes an insulated enclosure, a refrigeration system supplying cold air to the enclosure, a plurality of trays containing comestibles to be frozen and a plurality of vertically stacked linear lanes through which the trays can pass. A tray advancement or pusher mechanism advances trays one at a time into the enclosure, filling the lowermost lane with abutted trays. Elevator mechanisms at each end of the enclosure advance trays reaching opposite ends of the enclosure one level upward, with mechanisms advancing trays out of the elevators onto horizontal levels. One by one, as additional trays are pushed into the enclosure, incrementally higher lanes fill with trays. The result is that trays advance, preferably on passive tray guides, back and forth across the length of the enclosure, eventually filling it and exiting from the top as new trays enter below.
