    Abstract: A dental pin system including an elongated pin (10) having a plurality of pin sections (20, 20a, 20b) each of which can be sheared from the next adjacent section by means of a reduced diameter frangible throat portion (22, 22a, 22b). The upper end of the pin includes a flattened tang (34, 36) which is securely inserted within an adaptor member (12). The adaptor member (12) is barrel-shaped with an opposing pair of knobs (54, 56), diametrically projecting from the midsection (44) of the barrel. The adaptor member (12) can be removably inserted into a pair of receiving slots (70, 72) at the end of a shank (14). The upper end of the shank (14) is adapted for direct driving by means of a handpiece (16) or hand driver (18). A plurality of the adaptor members (12), each color coded to identify their respective pin (10), can all be mounted on a plate (126) in a prepackaged kit (120) and a single shank (14) can be used to connect to each adaptor member (12) in turn whereby the shank (14) is reused for the adaptors (12).

    Abstract: A dental core and post assembly for use in the formation of a dental core for the restoration of a tooth structure. The dental post assembly (10) includes a support structure (16) for positioning into a prepared tooth root to be restored. At least one leg (30) depends from the support structure for insertion into an ancillary bore (156, 160) predrilled into the root adjacent a central bore predrilled through a canal in the tooth root. An axial aperture (42) through the support structure permits a pin (166) to be adjustably inserted through the axial aperture and into the central bore until it is seated in the central bore. The leg is contiguous with the pin. In one form the invention provides a burnout core (12) and post (14) for the direct technique of forming a post and core system. In another form, the invention provides an impression post (100) for use in connection with the formation of an impression in the indirect technique of forming the core and post system.

    Abstract: A router (10) for performing finishing operations on a dental model having a housing with a base (12) in which a motor (22) is positioned. A storage compartment (40) mounted on the base (12) includes a pivotal cover (44). The cover (44) forms a horizontal work platform (80) on which the dental model is supported during the operations. The motor (22) extends into the storage compartment (40) and a tool (118) is secured to the shaft (116) for vertical projection above the work platform (80) through a hole (82) in the cover (44). Apertures (86) in the cover (44) permit dust to fall down into the storage compartment (60) from which a vacuum extracts the dust. A novel method of routing dental models is provided wherein the dental model is placed on a horizontal work surface (80) and finished using a vertically oriented tool (118).

    Abstract: A dental pin (12) and bushing assembly (14) for coupling of a removable die portion (110) of a tooth from a working cast (100). The pin includes an axially extending head portion (18) which can be secured within the die (110). The coaxial body portion (12) depends from the die portion (110) and includes an offset section for oriented insertion of the pin (12) in the bushing (54). The bushing (54) is secured in the working cast (100) and includes an elongated sleeve (32) with a mating chamber for receiving the pin (12). The bushing (54) matingly receives the body portion of the pin (12) so that the removable die (110) can be inserted in only a single oriented direction into the bushing (54).

    Abstract: A rotary table saw (10) for sectioning dental models having a housing with a base portion (12) and a working table (28) mounted on the base portion (12). The working table (28) is controllably depressible so as to be moved upward and downward with respect to the base (12). The motor housed in the base (12) drives a rotary blade (50) oriented in a vertical direction. A slit (70) in the work table (28) permits the blade (50) to emerge therethrough as the work table (28) is depressed. The vacuum outlet is placed in flow communication with the surface of the work table (28) during depression of the work table (28) to remove saw dust from the work table (28). The dental model is placed on the work table (28) with the blade (50) hidden beneath the work table (28). The work table (28) is depressed to permit emerging of the rotary blade (50) cutting from the underside of the dental model.
