Abstract: In an embodiment, an apparatus includes a radio frequency (RF) generator that is to generate a RF signal, first and second electrodes, and an impedance match module in series between the RF generator and the first electrode. The RF generator detects reflected power from the RF signal applied to a load electrically coupled between the first and second electrodes to change a temperature of the load, the RF signal to be applied to the load until the reflected power reaches a particular value.

Abstract: A scanner comprises an electromagnetic wave source; and a detector positioned to measure emissions from the electromagnetic wave source, wherein the electromagnetic wave source comprises a first technology, and the electromagnetic wave source is interchangeable with a second electromagnetic wave source comprising a second technology and/or wherein the detector comprises a first technology, and the detector is interchangeable with a second detector comprising a second technology. The scanner can comprise a storage medium having instructions stored thereon to perform a method for training the scanner for an inspection application, the method comprising operating the electromagnetic wave source to generate electromagnetic wave emissions at a plurality of combinations of parameters; moving a conveyor belt to expose product having a plurality of contaminants of different sizes to the emissions generated at more than one combination of parameters; recording attenuated emissions that pass through the product at more than one combination of parameters; and selecting a combination of parameters to use when inspecting for the contaminant.

Abstract: Food products (22) being transported on a conveyor (24) are scanned to ascertain if designated desired physical parameters are met. If so, the food products (22) are allowed to continue along a processing path. If not, the food products are diverted from the processing path by a diverter system (30) consisting of the plurality of individually operated diverter units positioned across the width of the conveyor. The diverter units (32) are controlled by a control system (28) so that only the diverter units in alignment with work products (22) to be diverted are actuated thereby to remove the work product from the processing path (25).
