Abstract: A mechanical seal assembly (10) adapted for arrangement around a rotating shaft (12) of a rotating device and has first (36) and a second (30) seal rings. The assembly (10) also includes an annular carrier (200) having a base (202) and a removable end portion (204) configured to be affixed to a housing (18) of the rotating device. The assembly (10) also includes an annular flexible sealing membrane (100). The membrane (100) includes an outer portion (102) arrangeable between the first seal ring (36) and a biasing mechanism (500) and that is axially shiftable relative to the rotating shaft (12). The membrane (100) also includes an inner portion (104) surrounded by the outer portion (102) and positioned between the base (202) and the removable end portion (204) of the annular carrier (200) and the base and a removable end portions (202, 204) hold the inner portion (104) in fixed relative to the annular carrier (200) as the outer portion (102) shifts relative to the rotating shaft (12).
