    Abstract: A round cutting insert (10, 100, 200) includes a bottom surface (16), a clearance side surface (14) and a top surface (12). The top surface (12) includes a chip control feature in the form of a continuous, circumferential depression (30, 30') formed by a substantially planar bottom surface (30a, 30a') and a pair of upward sloping substantially planar side walls (30b, 30b', 30c, 30c') that form an angle with respect to the top surface (12). The chip control feature may also include a plurality of radially offset bumps (102, 104, 106) located in the depression (30, 30'). The bumps (102, 104, 106) may have the same size and shape, or may have a different size and shape. The top surface (12) also includes an elevated island (24) having one or more indexing marks (26) for easy indexing of the cutting insert.
