Abstract: A pocketed spring assembly (12, 13, 12c) comprises parallel strings (26, 27, 26a, 26b, 26c, 26cc), each string joined to at least one adjacent string. At least some of the strings (26b) have springs of different gauge wire and some of the pockets (58, 60) of the strings (26b) having springs of different gauge wire are spliced together. At least some of the strings (26b) have springs of different geometries and some of the pockets (58, 60) of the strings (26b) having springs of different geometries are spliced together. At least some strings (26b) may have end sections (64, 64c) with springs different than a middle section therebetween, the springs of the end sections (64, 64c) being firmer than the springs of the middle section.
