Abstract:
An improved switching control apparatus (1) for switching a number of alternating current (AC) devices (20), such as AC vend motors, uses a reduced number of AC power switching elements (10) such as relays by dividing the AC devices into two groups and using one switching element (K7) to select which of the two groups is to be selected, and using an additional number of AC power switching elements (K1-K6) each of which is connected to one of the AC devices in each of the two groups to select which one of the AC devices is to be activated. Preferably, a further AC power switching element (Q1) is used to control the flow of power to the group determining AC power switching element so that switching transients can be minimized.
Abstract:
An improved motor control for banknote handling apparatus (10). An improved stacker pusher motor arrangement (200) has a defined cycle of operation. The time it takes the stacker pusher motor (116) to complete a predetermined portion of this cycle is measured. A braking time is computed from the measured time, and a braking control signal dependent thereon is applied to the stacker pusher motor (116) to stop the stacker pusher motor (116) at the appropriate position. An improved banknote transporting arrangement (200) measures the time needed for a banknote to travel from a first point to a second point. A braking time is computed from the measured time and an appropriate braking control signal is applied to stop the banknote (600) at the appropriate position.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for reducing vandalism and minimizing damage from liquids injected into apertures of a vending machine is described. An anti-salting module (1), having a housing with an integral tray (2) for collecting liquids, is connected beneath a bill validator (100) in a vending machine. A rubber fillet (5) is connected to the rear of the bill validator and directs injected fluids to the tray. A moisture sensor (4) integral to the tray is connected to detection and control circuitry. When moisture is detected, the detection and control circuitry operates to interrupt power and control signals to the bill validator. After moisture has been detected, vending machine power and control signals can be restored only when moisture is no longer present, and a set switch (84) is depressed by service personnel.
Abstract:
An improved method and apparatus for the autodiscrimination of barcodes. First, an interrupt driven technique for timing the duration of space and barcode data is described which allows a microprocessor to decode a first quantum of barcode data during a substantial portion of the time the microprocessor is timing the duration of space and bar data of a second quantum of barcode data. Second, an improved method of locating a barcode margin and eliminating types of barcodes to be tried for purposes of decoding is described. Briefly, an integer ratio of space and following bar duration data is compared to a predetermined number, and a determination is made as to whether the space is a margin based on the comparison. Preferably, the two techniques are used in conjunction to speed the autodiscrimination in apparatus for scanning a plurality of different types of bar codes.
Abstract:
A rotating hinged cashbox for a vending or gaming machine that can be tilted for emptying can include a pivot mechanism that engages corresponding pivot features of the vending or gaming machine. The cashbox can include a cassette having a receptacle for receiving payments deposited into the vending or gaming machine and a pivot point on the cassette that enables the cassette to rotate relative to the vending or gaming machine.
Abstract:
A validator portion (12) of a bill validator is disclosed comprising two different plastic materials of different colors, fused together. The first plastic material (70) is preferably opaque, or black, and the second plastic material (64) is preferably clear. The clear material is used to provide windows (62, 63) through the validator housings for light to pass from light sources, such as light emitting diodes (50), to photodetectors, such as phototransistors (56), and protects the light source and photodetectors from water, dirt and air. Prisms (82a, 82b) can be provided as well, to provide a detector for foreign matter such as string. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the validator can be formed by a two shot, injection molding process.
Abstract:
The portable data scanner apparatus (1) is a self-contained unit with no external cabling and operates to scan barcodes under adverse scanning conditions, such as bright sunlight, in the presence of glare and reflections and is capable of scanning a barcode through glass, plastic, and other clear materials. The scanner (1) incorporates a keyboard (33) and a display (35) which permit the operator to control the aiming period and the decoding process. A laser light source beam is focused to provide a spot size substantially the same size as the smallest barcode feature to reduce received signal noise. A scanning algorithm which searches for start and stop characters is employed to decode barcode data.
