    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to microstrip antenna designs and more particularly to stacked patch antenna designs capable of achieving wide operational scan angles (e.g. scan-capable to 55 degrees or greater) which operate over an octave or greater frequency bandwidth. Such stacked patch antenna designs find use in a wide range of applications including, but not limited to, space-based systems and airborne systems (e.g. space-based and airborne radar systems and communication systems which utilize array antennas).

The at least one castellated substrate having first and second opposing surfaces and a first array of antenna elements disposed on a first one of the first and second surfaces of the at least one castellated substrate.
