Abstract:
An electrically nonconductive composite article comprising a fibrillated polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) matrix, electrically conductive particles, and electrically nonconductive, energy expanded polymeric particles, which composite upon application of pressure thereto becomes electrically conductive and allows for the flow of electricity through the article. The articles are thin and can be used as a pressure sensitive pad or an interconnect for an electronic component.
Abstract:
A composite article comprising, in the unexpanded form, a fibrillated PTFE matrix and a combination of energy expandable hollow polymeric particles and sorptive particles, which composite, on applying energy such as steam, heat, or laser energy, provides an expanded article having increased void volume and decreased density. The expanded articles are porous and efficient articles for separation and purification applications. In flat or rolled form, the composite article can be used in separation devices.
Abstract:
A composite article comprising, in the unexpanded form, a fibrillated polyolefin matrix and energy expandable hollow polymeric particles, which article, on applying energy such as steam, heat or laser energy, provides an expanded article having decreased density. The expanded articles are lightweight, breathable, and efficient thermal insulators. The articles in sheet form are thin, and when laminated to or between other fabric material, provide an article that is both a thermal insulator and breathable.
Abstract:
Methods of producing release coatings, adhesives, primers, and other polymeric coatings are described. A method for producing a release coating on a substrate comprises the steps of applying a polymerizable composition comprising a free radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated polysiloxane to a surface of a substrate, and exposing the polymerizable composition to a monochromatic light source having a peak intensity at a wavelength of between about 160 nanometers to 240 nanometers to form a release coating. Methods for producing a pressure sensitive adhesive and other polymeric coatings using a monochromatic light source are also described.
