Abstract: An electronic apparatus, such as a customer serviceable data processing terminal, including a keyboard module (30) releasably mounted on a housing (20) in a position whereby removal of the keyboard module (30) from the housing (20) provides access to the interior of the housing (20) for servicing electronic components therein. Cooperating electrical connector means (42, 44) are provided on the keyboard module (30) and the housing (20) to provide electrical coupling between the keyboard module (30) and the electronic components within the housing (20). The electrical connector means (42, 44) forms part of an electrical circuit (46) for interrupting the power supply to the electronic components whenever the keyboard module (30) is removed from the housing (20).

Abstract: A ribbon (40) is driven past the printing station of a printer (12) only when a reciprocating print head (22) is moved in the right-to-left direction across the printer (12). An endless timing belt (46), which reciprocates together with the print head (22), causes rotation of a gear pulley (48) that is in mesh with an idler gear (66). The idler gear (66) is supported on a pair of projecting fingers (80, 82) of a plate (68) that is swingable on the spindle (56) supporting the gear pulley (48). Abstract: An apparatus for controlling ribbon feed includes a rotatable supply roll (10) and a rotatable take-up roll (12). A first electric motor (74) is provided for driving the take-up roll (12) in a first direction of rotation and a second electric motor (72) drives the supply roll (10) in an opposite direction of rotation. Abstract: An optical reader head with a video compensation circuit for use in high speed reading applications. The head utilizes a light source comprising two rows of small, low wattage focused light bulbs (42) arranged in spaced, parallel relationship to illuminate a scanning line (46). The light source has a buit-in redundancy in that one of the light bulbs (42) may fail without affecting the performance of the reader head.
