Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds of Formula I which form hydrogels upon mixing with water, and to fibers which form from the compounds. The hydrogels and fibers are antibacterial and not toxic towards mammalian cells. Such compounds, hydrogels, and fibers are useful, for example, in the treatment of surfaces such as in dermal or internal wounds as a barrier layer, or any article which may require disinfection. (I)
