Abstract: An apparatus (201, 301) for processing at least one immersive audio signal, the at least one immersive audio signal comprising at least one audio signal (204) associated with a sound source, at least one sound source parameter defining the sound source and at least one scene parameter for acoustically defining a scene (202) within which the sound source is located, the apparatus comprising means configured to: obtain the at least one audio signal associated with the sound source; obtain the at least one sound source parameter defining the sound source; obtain the at least one scene parameter for acoustically defining the scene within which the sound source is located; determine information, for the sound source, about a propagation delay (213, 215); and process the at least one audio signal based on the information, wherein the means configured to process the at least one audio signal is configured to: determine at least one early reverberation parameter (213); and render the at least one audio signal based on the at least one early reverberation parameter (239).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for simulating reverberation in rendering systems. A decoder/renderer (640) may determine how to simulate reverberation with reference to audio scene description format file (612) information or other bitstream information regarding the virtual scene geometry, and/or a lookup table. Late reverberation (656) may be generated based on reverberator parameters (710) derived from the virtual scene geometry (730), including the lengths of delay lines, attenuation filter coefficients, and diffuse-to-direct ratio characteristics, using a feedback delay network. Early reflections (652) may be generated based on determining what potential reflecting elements in a virtual scene geometry are reflecting planes (720); this may involve the simulation of ray reflection, potentially through beam tracing (654).
