Abstract:
An electromagnetic forming apparatus for forming an essentially planar metal plate into a dish having a three-dimensional pattern, is provided. The apparatus comprises a mould having a forming surface with a contour corresponding to said three-dimensional pattern; a forming coil device; and an electric discharge circuitry for discharging a short and intense electric current pulse through the forming coil device to yield a pulsed magnetic forming (PMF) force for deforming said plate.
Abstract:
An apparatus for connecting an electric cable to a cable lug is described. The lug has a palm portion, and a barrel portion integrated with the palm portion for receiving wires of the cable. The apparatus comprises one or more inductor coils. Each coil comprises a pair of connector terminals separated by a slot; and an aperture having dimension sufficient for placing the barrel portion therein. The apparatus also comprises an electric discharge unit coupled to the pair of connector terminals for providing a rapid intense current discharge through the inductor coil. The aperture of the coil has a shape that conforms to the shape of a cross-section of the lug along its length.
Abstract:
Two workpieces are joined together or welded to one another by inducing movement in a first of the two workpieces or a portion thereof by means of a pulsed magnetic force, whereby the first workpiece or portion impacts onto the second of the two workpieces and the two then become joined or welded to one another.
Abstract:
An apparatus for forming a generally planar metal plate into a dish with a three-dimensional pattern is provided. The apparatus comprises a mold having a forming surface with a contour corresponding to said three-dimensional pattern, and having edges corresponding to boundaries of the dish, which edges are defined by side walls essentially perpendicular to the forming plane; a forming device comprising a fluid basin and pairs of electric discharge members within the fluid and having an opening facing the mold to allow transmission of a pressure wave from the fluid to the metal plate; and an electric discharge circuitry for discharging a short and intense electric current through the pairs of electric discharge members generating an electric spark or breakdown within the fluid to yield formation of plasma, vapor or both.
Abstract:
A system for producing a high intensity electric current pulse is described. The system includes a plurality of discharge modules connected in parallel to a load device. Each discharge module comprises a capacitor bank and a high current switch connected in series to the load device. The system also includes a high voltage supply device coupled to the capacitor banks for charging thereof. Any two of the discharge modules are coupled to each other through a resistive element so as to prevent sharp voltage decrease across the capacitor banks, and thereby to enable a concurrent operation of the high current switches.
