Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, via a first carrier associated with a first radio access technology, at least a first uplink grant from a base station. The UE may implement one or more backoff schemes. For example, the UE may transmit, using resources indicated by at least the first uplink grant, an uplink message based on a temperature of one or more components of the UE satisfying a threshold, the uplink message including a transport block (TB) indicating data, a buffer status report (BSR) associated with the data, one or more padding bytes different from the data, or any combination thereof. The UE may monitor for at least a second uplink grant from the base station during a first time period based on transmitting the uplink message.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some wireless communications networks, a device, such as a user equipment (UE), may be configured to detect a signal blockage affecting one or more antennas of the UE. The signal blockage may be associated with the position of a body, such as a user, relative to the one or more antennas of the UE, which may include how a user places their hand on or near the device during use. The position of the body may block one or more of the antennas of the UE, causing increased signal attenuation and decreased communications performance. The UE may be configured to signal, an indication based on detecting the signal blockage.

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, based at least in part on a transmit configuration, a first communication associated with a first group of logical channels associated with at least a portion of an ON duration of an uplink transmission interval configuration. The UE may transmit, based at least in part on the transmit configuration, a second communication during at least a portion of an OFF duration of the uplink transmission interval configuration, wherein the transmit configuration indicates a first amount of energy for the first communication based at least in part on the first communication being associated with the first group of logical channels and a second amount of energy for the second communication based at least in part on the second communication being associated with a second group of logical channels. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may allocate a first amount of power to one or more radios for a time window based on radio frequency (RF) exposure information and one or more other criteria. The UE may allocate a second amount of power to a selected channel or communication utilized by at least one radio of the one or more radios for one or more time frames within the time window based on the first amount of power allocated to the at least one radio for the time window. The UE may transmit the selected channel or communication based on the first amount of power or the second amount of power. Numerous other aspects are described.

Abstract: A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a number of uplink grants from a base station. The method further includes estimating a payload size for data to be transmitted from a UE buffer for a number of logical channels. The payload size corresponds to a sum of a number of data bytes to be transmitted and an amount of overhead bytes to be transmitted. The method still further includes determining a subset of the number of uplink grants to use for uplink transmission based on reducing a total padding size associated with transmitting the payload size, for each combination of the number of uplink grants. The method also includes transmitting the data from the UE buffer within a number of transport blocks, to the base station. The number of transport blocks corresponds to the subset of the number of uplink grants.

Abstract: In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) may receive an uplink (UL) grant (e.g., dynamic UL grant, UL configured grant (CG)) from a network, but may decide to skip the UL grant altogether or not transmit any user plane data on the UL grant. In such instances, the UE may maintain or expedite expiration associated with one or more timers (e.g., discontinuous reception (DRX) and bandwidth part (BWP) inactivity timers, secondary cell (SCell) deactivation timer, etc.). The UE may also maintain or expedite expiration associated with one or more timers if it receives downlink (DL) transmission (e.g., DL semi-persistent scheduling (SPS)) from the network that includes no user plane data.
