Abstract:
A multi-antenna device configured for addressing connection performance issues in UL/DL imbalance scenarios is described. The device may identify a potential UL/DL imbalance scenario and select signal measurements associated with either a primary antenna or a diversity antenna for mobility procedures and/or mobility measurement reporting based on the detected imbalance. In one example, the device may receive a signal at both the primary and a diversity antenna and may identify an imbalance between the primary and diversity signal measurements. The device may then compare the identified imbalance with an imbalance threshold and may select the primary or diversity signal measurement for mobility procedures and/or measurement reporting based at least in part on the comparison. For instance, if the imbalance is greater than the imbalance threshold the device may use the primary signal measurements and may otherwise use the stronger of the primary or diversity signal measurements.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to identifying a cell as a handover candidate in coverage areas based on decoding a secondary synchronization signal and/or a primary broadcast channel of the handover candidate cell. An example method generally includes initiating a search for a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) for a first cell of one or more handover candidate cells, and reporting the first cell as a handover candidate in a measurement report if the SSS for the first cell is detected a threshold number of times.

A first method for managing diversity tune away (DTA) on a mobile communication device includes: determining a start of the DTA from a first radio access technology (RAT) to a second RAT before the start of the DTA; transmitting a first aperiodic channel quality indicator/rank indicator (CQI/RI) report to a network on the first RAT prior to the start of the DTA; determining an end of the DTA before the end of the DTA; and transmitting a second aperiodic CQI/RI report to the network on the first RAT prior to the end of the DTA. A second method for managing diversity tune away (DTA) on a mobile communication device includes: inhibiting transmission of periodic channel quality indicator/rank indicator (CQI/RI) reports from the mobile communication device to a network on a first radio access technology (RAT) prior to a start of the DTA to a second RAT; in response to receiving a first aperiodic CQI/RI report request from the network at the start of the DTA, transmitting a first CQI/RI report to the network on the first RAT after the start of the DTA; inhibiting transmission of further periodic CQI/RI reports on the first RAT from the mobile communication device to the network prior to an end of the DTA; and in response to receiving a second aperiodic CQI/RI report request from the network at the end of the DTA, transmitting a second CQI/RI report to the network on the first RAT after the end of the DTA. A third method for managing diversity tune away (DTA) on a mobile communication device includes: reporting a first rank indicator (Rl) to a network during the DTA; receiving, at the mobile communication device, modulation and coding scheme (MCS) information from the network; determining block error rate (BLER) based on error checking of received data packets; evaluating the MCS information and the BLER for a specified signal- to-noise ratio (SNR) over a plurality of system frames; and reporting a second Rl during the DTA based on a BLER threshold corresponding to the MCS and SNR.
