Abstract:
An apparatus for wireless power transfer comprises a coupler having a first resistance and configured to generate a voltage under influence of a time-varying magnetic field generated by a wireless power transmitter. The apparatus comprises a rectifier circuit configured to rectify the voltage. The apparatus comprises a switching circuit coupled to an output of the rectifier circuit and having a first state and a second state. A first amount of power dissipated by at least the first resistance and the rectifier circuit in the first state and a second amount of power dissipated by at least the first resistance and the rectifier circuit in the second state. The apparatus comprises a controller configured to toggle the switching circuit between the first state and the second state. A difference between the second and first amounts of power is differentiable by the wireless power transmitter.
Abstract:
An apparatus for wireless power transfer (402) includes: a support member (513) including a charging surface (514) configured to support a power receiving element (42); a power transmitting element (502) configured to generate a magnetic field that can wirelessly transfer power to the power receiving element (42); a metallic shield (504) disposed such that the power transmitting element (502) is disposed between the support member (513) and the metallic shield (504), the metallic shield (504) being configured to inhibit the magnetic field generated by the power transmitting element (502); and ferrite pieces (506) spaced apart from each other and disposed between the power transmitting element (502) and the metallic shield (504) and closer to the metallic shield (504) than to the power transmitting element (502), the ferrite pieces (506) offsetting an effect of the metallic shield (504) on a reactance of the power receiving element (42).
