Abstract: The invention provides a guide rail section (200) for a guide rail for guiding displacement of a conveyance in a mine shaft, the guide rail section (200) including a longitudinally extending guide formation (14) and a retractable latch (24) for connecting the guide rail section (200) to another such guide rail section (200) adjacent thereto, the latch (24) being movable between an extended position in which the latch (24) projects beyond an end (21) of the guide rail section (200) and a retracted position in which it does not project beyond the end (21). The invention extends to a method of connecting the guide rail section (200) to another such guide rail section (200). The invention extends further to a guide rail which includes a plurality of the guide rail sections (200) connected to one another.

Abstract: The invention provides guide rail section (10) for guiding displacement of a conveyance in a mine shaft, the guide rail section (10) including a longitudinally extending guide formation (14) which includes one or more walls (19a, 19b), an end (22) which includes a longitudinally extending locating projection (14) for connecting the guide rail section (10) to another such guide rail section (10), with the locating projection (24) having a widened portion (26) and a narrow portion (28) and being connected to the remainder of the guide rail section (10) via the narrow portion (26), the guide rail section (10) further including an opposite end (21) which defines a locating recess (32) for receiving the locating projection (24) of another such guide rail section (10), the locating recess (32) extending through the wall (19a). The invention extends to a method of connecting the guide rail section (10) to another such guide rail section (10). The invention extends further to a guide rail which includes a plurality of the guide rail sections (10) connected to one another.
