Abstract: An electrochemical device (28) having a roll (22) with elongated electrodes (12p, 12n) each supported in one of two alternating folds (16p, 16n) of a separator layer (14), and spirally wound in the roll (22) with the separator layer (14) to define two opposing ends (22a, 22b), each of such ends (22a, 22b) only exposing a different one of the electrodes (12p. 12n) wound along the roll. The device (28) having a disc shaped housing (29) having upper and lower portions (30, 31) fixable to each other to set the device height. The upper portion (30) provides a first member with a first surface (42a) disposed along one end (22a) of the roll (22). A second member (40 or 44) provides a second surface (42b) disposed along the other end (22b) of the roll (22). Spring elements are (46) compressed between the second member (40 or 44) and a third member.
