Abstract: Sulpho-free azo compound in metal free, 1:1 complex or 1:2 complex form having at least an average of 1.3 water solubilising basic groups of the formula I (FORMULA) in which Ra is an aromatic or acetoacyl group including a metallisable group, x is a metallisable group, R u is a diazo component, n is 1 or 2, X is a direct bond or bridging group, and R is the group, (FORMULA) when n is 2 with the provisos as given in the specification. The new compounds are useful as dyes for leather and paper.
