Abstract: A servovalve apparatus for use in fluid systems which comprises a flexible fluid conduit (60) and a conductive coil (42) which surrounds at least a portion of the conduit adjacent its upstream end. An armature (64) is secured to the flexible conduit so as to be adjacent the conductive coil. Two permanent magnets (72, 73) preferably formed of a rare earth metal material, are provided adjacent the armature on opposite sides thereof, the magnets being positioned such that one magnet presents a north magnetic pole facing the armature and the other magnet presents a south magnetic pole facing the armature. A receiving plate (80) is provided adjacent the downstream end of the flexible conduit, the receiving plate having one or more channels (85, 87) formed therein for receiving fluid from the conduit. Preferably, the channels in the receiving plate originate within and communicate with a concave socket (82) in the receiving plate which has substantially the same radius of curvature as the path over which the downstream end of the flexible conduit moves during flexure.

Abstract: A servovalve apparatus for use in fluid systems which comprises an elongate flexible valve element (60, 408) having a fixed end and a free, moveable end, and a conductive coil (42) which surrounds at least a portion of the valve element adjacent its fixed end. An armature (64) is secured to the valve element so as to be adjacent the conductive coil. Two permanent magnets (72, 73) are provided adjacent the armature on opposite sides thereof, the magnets being positioned such that one magnet presents north magnetic pole facing the armature and the other magnet presents a south magnetic pole facing the armature. A receiving plate (80, 428) is provided adjacent the free end of the valve element, the receiving plate having one or more channels (440, 320, 324) formed therein for receiving fluid, and a bore for delivering fluid (432, 436, 84, 86). Preferably, the channels and bore in the receiving plate originate within and communicate with a concave socket (28, 430) in the receiving plate which has substantially the same radius of curvature as the path over which the free end of the valve element moves during flexure. A deflection cup (412) is disposed on the free end of the valve element to move adjacent the surface of the concave socket, and selectively redirect fluid from the bore to one of the channels.

Abstract: A teleoperation system includes a master station (200) having an operable master link (204) coupled to a master actuator (208) which provides force resistance to operation and movement of the master link (204) in response to command signals, and a slave station (202) having a slave link (236) moveable by a slave actuator (240) in response to command signals. Also included is a control system for producing command signals in response to a comparison between position signals representing the position of the master and slave links (204, 236), and also a comparison between force signals of the master and slave links (204, 236). The control system produces a force command signal based upon the results of the comparisons and supplies it to the slave actuator (240) to cause the slave actuator (240) to move the slave link (236) in substantially faithfull imitation of movement of the master link (204).

Abstract: An implantable drug delivery system includes a housing (4) having a plurality of compartments (8) each of which includes an opening (48) on one side thereof and a floor generally opposite the opening. Also included are a plurality of flexible drug containment sacks (40), each having a mouth (44) circumscribing an opening in the sack, with the sack being disposed in a respective compartment with the mouth affixed to the opening of that compartment to seal the inside of the sack from the inside of the compartment and to enable holding a drug formulation in the sack. A plurality of covers (32) are disposed over a respective compartment opening for preventing the release of drug formulation contained in the sacks in the compartment covered, until ruptured or removed.
