    摘要: A technique facilitates performance of a machining operation on a component, e.g. a flange. An embodiment of the technique may employ an externally mounted flange facing machine having an external housing with a hollow interior therethrough. The externally mounted flange facing machine may further comprise a plurality of clamping feet mounted to the external housing and oriented for external engagement with the flange. A surface facing arm assembly may be movably mounted to the external housing for rotation in the hollow interior. Additionally, a tool carrier assembly may be movably mounted to the surface facing arm assembly. A feed assembly may be coupled with the tool carrier assembly to drive the tool carrier assembly linearly along the surface facing arm assembly as the surface facing arm assembly rotates in the hollow interior.

    摘要: A technique facilitates operation of a split lead nut system which may be used in combination with a lead screw. The split lead nut system may be constructed with a split lead nut having a plurality of lead nut sections, e.g. two lead nut sections. The lead nut sections may be selectively released, via a clasp mechanism, to enable separation of the lead nut sections. When the lead nut sections are separated, the split lead nut disengages from the lead screw such that the split lead nut and the corresponding lead screw may be rapidly shifted with respect to each other. This allows a tool coupled with the lead nut to be rapidly repositioned. Once at a desired position, the lead nut sections may be closed and reconnected with the corresponding lead screw to enable the desired, controlled movements of the tool via rotation of the lead screw.

    摘要: A technique provides for wireless control of a machine tool, e.g. a portable machine tool used on-site. According to an embodiment, a motor is connected with a tool post assembly via a gearbox. The motor is coupled with a machine controller, and the tool post assembly is mounted proximate an object to be machined. For example, the object may be machined via a cutting tool mounted to a cutter post of the tool post assembly. The machine controller operates to control movement of the cutter post along a desired axis during the cutting operation. The machine controller and thus the cutting operation, however, are controlled wirelessly according to control instructions provided via a control device, e.g. a handheld control device, which is placed in wireless communication with the machine controller.

    摘要: A technique facilitates performance of an operation on a cylindrical item, such as a tube or shaft. The technique utilizes a split frame device having separable sections to enable mounting of the split frame device about the cylindrical item while, for example, the cylindrical item remains in place in an overall system. The split frame device may comprise first and second non-rotating split frame steady assemblies supported by linear rails. A rotating tool carrier assembly is movably mounted on the linear rails between the first and second non-rotating split frame steady assemblies. The rotating tool carrier assembly may be positioned about the cylindrical item such that a rotatable component may be rotated about the cylindrical item. At least one power source may be used to impart axial movement to the rotating tool carrier assembly and/or rotational movement to the rotatable component for performance of a desired operation.
