Abstract: The invention provides a method for providing a dried material comprising a biomineralized cellulose multilayer, the method comprising: a disintegration stage comprising mechanically disintegrating at least part of the cellulose to cellulose fibers; a biomineralization stage comprising providing a mineralization mixture comprising the cellulose fibers, a urease-excreting microorganism, inorganic cations, and urea, to provide a biomineralized composition, wherein the inorganic cations comprise a first cation and a second cation, wherein a ratio of the second cation to the first cation in the inorganic cations is at least 1, and wherein the first cation comprises calcium, and wherein the second cation comprises magnesium; and a drying stage comprising drying the biomineralized composition to provide the dried material.
