    摘要: The invention relates to arc fault location in electrical power circuits, and in particular to methods of locating series arc faults through analysing transient data. Embodiments disclosed include a method of locating a series arc fault (101) in an electrical circuit (300), the method comprising the steps of: sampling current and voltage data from a supply end (303) and a load end (304) of a transmission line of the electrical circuit (300) over a time period covering a fault event; transforming the sampled data into the frequency domain; for a plurality of estimated locations of the fault, calculating an estimated supply end current and an estimated load end current from the transformed sample data; and determining a location of the series arc fault (101) based on a minimum difference between the estimated supply end and load end current data for one of the plurality of estimated locations.

    摘要: A method of locating a fault (14) on an electricity transmission line (12, 12a) is disclosed. The transmission line has a known line impedance and is operable to transport electricity at one or more system frequencies. The method comprises using measurements of the current and voltage made on the line (12, 12a) at one or more frequencies which are different to the system frequency and the known line impedance (Z) to determine a distance to the fault (14). The method may include monitoring the voltage and the current on the transmission line at the one or more non-system frequencies, and determining from the presence of signals at a non-system frequency on the transmission line (12, 12a) that a fault (14) has occurred.
