Abstract:
A thermally insulated container (1) for transporting temperature sensitive goods. The container (1) has a modular construction that includes a plurality of thermally insulated container sections (3), and means for fixing the container sections together (35) to provide at least part of the thermally insulated container structure. A modular system for constructing thermally insulated transportation containers (1) for transporting temperature sensitive goods is also provided. The modular system enables a variety of different sized thermally insulated containers (1) to be constructed, wherein each thermally insulated container (1) constructed is sized and shaped for loading onto an aircraft Unit Load Device, such as a pallet, said modular system including thermally insulated wall elements (5, 7, 9) that are configurable into a plurality of container sections (3), and means for fixing the container sections together (35) to form at least part of a thermally insulated container structure. A method for constructing a modular thermally insulated transportation container (1) is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A thermally insulated transportation container (1) for transporting temperature sensitive goods, said container (1) including: thermally insulated walls (la-ld) at least partly defining a storage volume for said goods; an opening member (3) for accessing the thermally insulated storage volume, the opening member (3) having a mounting assembly (11) arranged to receive and mount at least one PCM unit (10) to the opening member (3) and/or wall (1 a-1 d) and to retain the at least one PCM unit on the opening member (3) and/or wall (1 a-1 d) during use of the container, the mounting assembly (11) including a mounting member (15) on which the at least one PCM unit (10) is mountable and a locking member (25) that is movably attached to the opening member (3) or wall (1 a-1 d), and is arranged to move from a first position in which the at least one PCM unit (10) is mountable on to the mounting member (15) to a second position which, in use, locks the at least one PCM unit (10) to the opening member (3) or wall (1 a-1 d).
Abstract:
An in-flight service cart (1) for use on an aircraft for maintaining a payload such as foodstuffs and the like within a selected temperature range, said in-flight service cart (1) including: a housing (3) having a storage volume; and at least one thermally insulated container (5) removably mounted within the housing (3), said container having an outer casing (7), a thermally conductive inner casing (11), thermal insulation (9) located between the outer casing (7) and the inner casing (11), said thermal insulation including at least one vacuum insulation panel (9a-e), a payload volume for storing foodstuffs, an opening (29,47) providing access to the payload volume, a closure member (13) for closing the opening (29,47), at least one thermal energy storage unit (15) located within the inner casing (11), said thermal energy storage unit(s) (15) including a phase change material that is arranged to change phase at a temperature greater than or equal to -10°C; wherein the inner casing (11) and closure member (13) define the payload volume for storing the foodstuffs, and the thermal energy storage unit(s) (15) is positioned in thermal contact with the inner casing (11), the arrangement being such that the inner casing (11) provides a thermally conductive pathway for conducting heat entering the container (5) to the thermal energy storage unit (15). A thermally insulated container (5) for an in-flight service cart (1) is also provided.
