Abstract: The invention provides a device (3) for manipulating items of luggage. The device comprises a base member (15), an arm (7) which is pivotable about a vertical pivot axis relative to the base member, and a carrying element (4) having a supporting surface (5) for supporting an item of luggage. The arm (7) is designed (11) to move the carrying element (4) away from the vertical pivot axis and toward the vertical pivot axis. The device further comprises moving means (9, 19) for moving the arm (7) in vertical direction, resistance means which, in an operative state thereof, offer resistance against movement of the carrying element (4) both in vertical direction and in horizontal direction relative to the base member (15), and operating means to be operated by a person (1), which operating means are provided with an operating element to be operated with a hand of said person for controlling at least the resistance means. The operating element is provided on the carrying element (4), whilst the operating means are designed at least for placing the resistance means in a non-operative state.
