Abstract: A process for recovering ethanol obtained from the hydrogenation of acetic acid. The crude ethanol product is separated in a column to produce a distillate stream comprising acetaldehyde and ethyl acetate and a residue stream comprising ethanol, acetic acid and water. Acetal byproduct can be reduced or removed through configurations of hydrolysis secondary reactors. The ethanol product is recovered from the residue stream.

Abstract: A polymer composition for producing gel extruded articles is described. The polymer composition contains polyethylene particles combined with a plasticizer and one or more surface tension reducing techniques. In one aspect, the surface tension reducing technique includes adding a filler or chemical component to the polyethylene polymer for increasing wettability. Alternatively, the surface tension reducing technique can be a surface treatment, such as a plasma treatment. Polymer articles made in accordance with the present disclosure can have dramatically increased wettability properties. In one embodiment, the polymer composition is used to form a porous membrane for use as a separator in electronic devices.

Abstract: The present invention relates an emulsifier stabilized formulated copolymer dispersion, processes for forming the emulsifier stabilized formulated copolymer dispersion, and to uses thereof. The emulsifier stabilized formulated copolymer dispersion may be formed by polymerizing at least one monomer in the presence of a stabilizer package, to form an emulsifier stabilizer copolymer dispersion, and introducing a post-addition comprising a polyvinyl alcohol solution to the emulsifier stabilized copolymer dispersion to form an emulsifier stabilized formulated copolymer dispersion. The polyvinyl alcohol, added as solution, may be added in an amount from 1 to 10 % by weight, solid polyvinyl alcohol based on solids content of the emulsifier stabilized copolymer dispersion. The polyvinyl alcohol may have a molecular weight expressed as viscosity from 3 mPa·s to 60 mPa·s based on a 4 % solution at 20 °C and a degree of hydrolysis from 70 mol.% to 85 mol.%, preferably from 78 mol.% to 82 mol.%, more preferably 80 mol.%.

In one aspect, the polyoxymethylene polymer or paraformaldehyde is formed from a biogas or from a recycled gas. The biogas and the recycled gas are used to produce the components needed to form the polymer.

Abstract: Halogen-free, flame resistant polymer compositions are disclosed. The polymer composition contains a thermoplastic polymer, such as polybutylene terephthalate. The thermoplastic polymer is combined with a flame retardant that includes a phosphinate, a phosphite, and a nitrogen-containing synergist. In addition, the composition can contain a fluoropolymer and an organometallic compatabilizer. The flame resistant composition displays excellent flame resistance even when containing the thermoplastic polymer in amounts greater than 60% by weight.
