A device for killing animals comprises a container (10) for accommodating therein one or more animals (D) to be gassed. The container comprises a gas supply system (G) and is otherwise substantially closable in a gastight manner The device is characterized in that the container has a floor (20) for the animals and the gas supply system is arranged to introduce into the container gassing gas in a manner spread over the container via the floor. Further, a method is provided.

A system and method for controlled atmosphere stunning of hogs is provided. The disclosed method includes the steps of: loading hogs in a stunning chamber and sealably enclosing the stunning chamber to isolate the atmosphere therein. Carbon dioxide is then introduced and forcibly recirculated within the stunning chamber in a series of three or four phases to humanely stun the hogs. The carbon dioxide containing atmosphere is subsequently forcibly exhausted from the stunning chamber and the stunned hogs are advanced to a further processing station.

System and method for controlled atmosphere stunning of chickens or turkeys in a batch mode is provided. The disclosed method includes the steps of: loading one or more batches of chickens or turkeys in a stunning chamber and sealably enclosing the stunning chamber to isolate the atmosphere therein. Carbon dioxide is then introduced to the isolated atmosphere in a series of three, four, five or more phases to humanely stun and eventually kill the poultry. The carbon dioxide containing atmosphere is subsequently forcibly exhausted from the stunning chamber and the ranks of cages or modules containing the stunned poultry are advanced to a subsequent processing station such as a tipper or dumping station.

A method of depopulating livestock is provided. The method comprises restricting the livestock in a defined space, and depositing foam into the defined space, forming a foam blanket covering the livestock. The livestock can be avians, such as chickens, ducks, and turkeys. A device for making medium expansion foam comprising a high expansion foam generator having a fan, and a shroud shielding the fan from ambient air intake. The shroud limits the amount of ambient air incorporated into the foam during operation. The device can include an alternative gas input positioned to direct an alternative gas to the fan. The alternative gas is selected from the group consisting of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, argon, and mixtures thereof.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung (10) zum Töten von zumindest einem Kleintier, insbesondere einem Nager, durch Einleiten eines CO 2 -haltigen Gasgemischs in einen das Kleintier einhausenden Käfig. Es ist vorgesehen, dass die Vorrichtung (10) eine Mischeinrichtung (14) aufweist, die - einen ersten Gasanschluss (32) zum Zuführen von CO 2 -Gas, - einen zweiten Gasanschluss (30) zum Zuführen einer weiteren Komponente des Gasgemischs, - eine mit diesen Gasanschlüssen (30, 32) verbundene Mischkammer (40) zum Mischen des CO 2 -Gases und der zumindest einen weiteren Komponente und - einen dritten Gasanschluss (28) zum Einleiten des CO 2 -haltigen Gasgemischs in den Käfig aufweist, wobei der zweite Gasanschluss (30) und der dritte Gasanschluss (28) derart ausgebildet und/oder angeordnet sind, dass diese beiden Gasanschlüsse (28, 30) gleichzeitig strömungstechnisch an den Käfig anschließbar sind. Die Erfindung betrifft weiterhin ein entsprechendes Verfahren zum Töten von zumindest einem Kleintier mittels CO 2 .

The invention relates to a method of stunning animals (A) prior to killing by bleeding, using an anaesthetic gas. The inventive method comprises the following steps: a group of animals (A) are directed towards a stunning chamber (2); the animals (A) in the group are herded into the stunning chamber (2) essentially simultaneously; the stunning chamber (2) is closed in a leaktight manner (2); an anaesthetic gas is released into the stunning chamber for a determined period of time, such that the animals are rendered unconscious; the gas is removed from the stunning chamber (2); the chamber (2) is opened; and the animals (A) are taken out of the chamber such that a new group of animals can be brought in and stunned.

The arrangement comprising a gas conducting structure having an inlet and a filter for removing one or more components of the gaseous flow from said gaseous flow. The filter is disposed within the gas conducting structure. The arrangement also includes in-situ weighing means for measuring variations in the weight of the filter, the in-situ weighing means being adapted to measure said variations whilst the filter is disposed within the gas conducting structure.
