Abstract:
A multi-layer golf ball includes a core having a solid sphere and between 100 and 300 spaced protrusions extending from the solid sphere in a radially outward direction. The sphere is substantially formed from an ionomeric material, and has a diameter (D) of between 24 mm and 32 mm. The protrusions extend from the sphere by a maximum distance of between 0.15 mm and 1.0 mm. An intermediate layer surrounds the core and formed from a rubber material. A cover layer surrounds the intermediate layer.

The core center has a diameter of 21-29 mm and a surface hardness H1 of more than about 50 Shore D. The core layer has a thickness of at least about 5 mm and an outer surface hardness H2 of less than 60 Shore D. The cover has an outer surface hardness H3 of at least 60 Shore D. H3 is up to about 10 Shore D units higher than H1, and H1 is up to about 10 Shore D units higher than H2. The core layer has a specific gravity that is at least 0.1 g/cm 3 greater than the specific gravity of the core center.

Abstract:
A golf ball has an ionomer resin core center, a cured rubber layer made from (a) an at least 70% cis-1,4 polybutadiene with Mooney viscosity (ML 1+4 (100C)) ≥40, (b) an unsaturated carboxylic acid or metal salt, and (c) a free radical initiator; and a cover including a thermoplastic material. The core center has a diameter of 21-29 mm and a 10-130 kg compression deformation (C) ≥4 mm. The core layer is ≥5 mm thick with a specific gravity ≥0.1 g/cm 3 greater than that of the core center. The cover may have a flexural modulus ≥15,000 psi or ≤35,000 psi. Also disclosed is a golf ball with an ionomer core center having C1 ≥ 3.5 mm, a cured rubber core layer ≥5 mm thick with C2 ≥3 mm, and a cover with C3 ≥2.8 mm, with C2/C1 and C3/C2 about 0.8-1.
Abstract:
A kit comprising a golf ball having a lower trajectory than a conventional golf ball such as the ProV1 or TopFlight XL Straight golf balls and a golf club with a loft that is selected in order to increase and optimize the distance that the golf ball travels when hit. The ball may be conforming or non-conforming ball having a plurality of dimple areas designed to generate low lift, or a golf ball with higher drag, higher weight, or smaller size than a standard ball.
Abstract:
Method of making a golf ball. A blend of a first highly neutralized acid polymer, a second highly neutralized acid polymer, and an ionomer- based masterbatch comprising an ionomer resin and an additive is used to form a layer of a golf ball. A second layer that essentially encloses the blend-containing layer then is formed.
Abstract:
A golf ball has a cover and a core which is made as a single piece or of two or more parts (for example an inner core covered by an outer core or mantle layer). The ball has non-spherical aspects in at least some parts and may also have different specific gravities in different parts of the ball. The different shaped ball parts combined with the different specific gravities of the materials for different ball parts results in a differential between the moments of inertia of the different spin axes. The golf ball is spherical, but the inner layers are not necessarily completely spherical or symmetrical layers or parts.
Abstract:
A golf ball (10) comprising a liquid core (12) and a reaction-injection- molded (RIM) cover (16) material is disclosed. The liquid core (12) comprises a core shell (13) defining a hollow region, the hollow region containing a fluid (14). The reaction-injection-molded material may be a reaction-injection-molded polyurethane, a reaction-iajection-molded polyurea, a reaction-injection-molded polyurethane/polyurea blend, or mixtures thereof. A golf ball with a liquid core (12) and RTM cover (16) exhibits variable spin characteristics and a larger spin decay.
