Devices for application of agents to the cutting mechanism of paper shredders are disclosed. Maintenance and lubrication can be performed by applying lubrication agents to the cutting mechanism of a paper shredder without requiring disassembly of the paper shredder. The agents can also include scented agents and decomposing agents or a combination thereof. Lubrication sheets are disclosed for applying agents to the cutting mechanism of paper shredders. A holder is disclosed for retaining lubrication sheets within proximity of a paper shredder. Paper shredders are also disclosed having various means for identifying when lubrication is needed and/or when the cutting mechanism of the paper shredder is lubricated by a lubrication sheet. Paper shredders having a reservoir of lubricant for delivery to the cutting mechanism of the paper shredder are also disclosed. Such reservoirs may be removable. Cap designs allowing use of a removable reservoir with the paper shredders are also disclosed.

A shredder is provided, including a stand having a base, a cutting head assembly and a container. The cutting head assembly includes an inlet for receiving material to be shredded and an outlet from which shredded material is dispensed. The inlet of the cutting head assembly is inclined relative to the base and may be substantially vertical. The container may be rotatable between an operating position, in which it receives shredded material from the outlet, and a removal position, in which the container is rotated away from the cutting head assembly such that it cannot receive shredded material from the outlet and the container can be removed from the stand. Also, materials are inserted into the inlet along a first path and the container is removed from the stand along a second path. The first and second paths may be substantially parallel to each other.

The invention relates to a top for a paper shredder, for receiving and feeding in paper, especially crumpled paper such as is found in waste paper baskets and similar; and to a method for filling a paper shredder using said top. The paper shredder has a housing consisting of a cabinet-type lower part and an optionally removable upper part, together with a cutting mechanism situated in the upper part of the housing and comprising cutting rollers and strippers, and an associated drive assembly. A feed shaft for so-called crumpled paper is provided above the cutting mechanism and the top can be permanently or optionally detachably mounted above said feed shaft. Together with a covered, worked-out top area of the upper housing part, the top forms a receiving compartment for crumpled paper. This receiving compartment is connected to the feed shaft. The invention also provides in particular that the top (11) has an integrated closing unit (20) comprising moveable parts which can change location and with which the filling opening (17) of the top (11) and the intermediate area between the receiving compartment and the feed shaft (10) can be alternately opened and closed.

A secure document bin is described that includes a bin having a lid that securely affixes to the bin to prevent unauthorized access to the contents of the bin, and an electronics module associated with the bin. The electronics module is formed in part by a location detection circuit and status sensors. The status sensors include a sensor to detect movement of the bin, a sensor to detect tampering with the bin, and a sensor to detect a relative fill, level of the bin. The location and status of the secure document destruction bin is monitored by a monitoring center using wireless transmissions from the secure document destruction bin.
