Attachment systems and associated structures are configured to provide accurate installation, removal and reinstallation of modular print bars in a printing system. An exemplary attachment system comprises one or more matched attachment assemblies, comprising latches and pins, wherein the latches are fixedly arranged with respect to print bar bays, and wherein each of the print bars is slidable with respect to a corresponding print bar bay. When a print bar is alignably positioned with respect to a corresponding print bar bay, a corresponding pin is securable to the latch, to accurately affix the print bar with respect to the print bar bay. The attachment system provides repeatable and accurate registration of the print bar with respect to the printing system. The enhanced attachment system may preferably comprise comprises an actuators, e.g. pneumatic or electric, to controllably engage or disengage the pins and/or latches.

In an exemplary embodiment, one or more vacuum plenums are provided for each print bar, wherein the vacuum plenums are specifically shaped to provide a desired, i.e. consistent, pressure differential in the region, e.g. to provide sufficient a sufficient vacuum force across a printing width of a transport belt, to adequately remove the moisture and other impurities from the region. While some systems may provide both pre and post print bar plenums, some preferred embodiments may preferably provide a single plenum with respect to each print bar, i.e. either before or after each respective print bar, such that the entire printing system may be more compactly packaged.

The present invention provides a cleaning assembly for use in a media processing device. In various embodiments, the cleaning assembly includes a first roller that at least partially engages a second roller, and a media transport path that passes between the first roller and the second roller. A third collection roller is disposed in at least intermittent contact with the second roller. The third collection roller also at least intermittently engages a drive assembly which drives a media substrate along the transport path. In one embodiment, the second roller defines a surface adherence that is greater than a surface adherence of the first roller and the third collection roller defines a surface adherence that is greater than the surface adherence of the second roller and the drive assembly. As a result, the present invention provides a cleaning assembly capable of cleaning the drive assembly and opposed surfaces of a media substrate in a single pass.

A system and method for self cleaning an air idler are provided. An air idler non-contactingly guides printable media using a flow of fluid through a porous surface portion. Rotation of the air idler results in rubbing contact with one or more wipers, during which debris is removed from the porous surface portion. A cleaning solution is used to remove ink and/or paper residue from the porous surface portion. The cleaning solution can wet one or more of the wipers. The cleaning solution can circulate through a reservoir disposed in contact with a portion of the air idler.
