Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention relate to dividers with tabs adjustable along at least two edges of the binder. One embodiment is directed to a divider for use in a binder. The divider comprises a panel (3), the panel comprising a binding edge and a plurality of non-binding edges, and a tab (5). The panel comprises at least one binding feature adjacent the binding edge and at least one tab mating feature adjacent at least first and second edges of the plurality of non-binding edges. The tab is configured to mate with the at least one tab mating feature. The at least one tab mating feature is configured such that the tab is positionable in at least two longitudinal positions along the first non- binding edge and in at least two longitudinal positions along the second non-binding edge.
Abstract:
A fastening system (7) that enables a tab (2) to be positioned around items to be joined, and a fastener (26) to be passed through the tab (2) and the items to be joined to fasten these. The invention relates to a fastening device (7) for effecting the system, a magazine (1) for storing and dispensing tabs (2) and to the tabs.
Abstract:
A customized application of index tabs (14) to dividers (12) and other types of indexing material includes a releasably attachable alignment tool (16). The alignment tool (16) includes a plurality of indicia (18) printed thereon for guiding the placement of a desired number of index tabs (14). The indicia (18) indicate by positioning of both numerals (26) and lines (22, 24) where an index tab (14) is to be placed on an indexing material (12), depending on the number of index tabs (14) that are to be placed. The alignment tool (16) may also be positioned on a sheet (42) and removable from the sheet (42) to align index tabs (14) on different documents. Multiple alignment tools (16) may also be positioned on a sheet (42) to align index tabs (14) on documents of different sizes.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a divider adhesion strip assembly that includes a sheet (30) with a front side and a bottom side having a perimeter that is defined by a first edge, a second edge, a third edge, and a fourth edge wherein the first edge is opposite the second edge and the third edge is opposite the fourth edge. A first laminate strip portion (90) may be adhered to the front side of the divider sheet. The first laminate strip portion is positioned along the first edge of the sheet and extends between the third edge and the fourth edge. A second laminate strip portion (100) may be adhered to the front side of the divider sheet. The second laminate strip portion is positioned along the second edge of the sheet and extends between the third edge and the fourth edge. A plurality of apertures (40) may be aligned adjacent the second edge of the sheet. A tab member (110) having indicia thereon and an adhesive portion (160) may be provided wherein the adhesive portion is configured to adhere to the first laminate strip portion such that the indicia extends past the perimeter of the sheet.
Abstract:
An index tab assembly may include a liner sheet 14 with an adhesive releasing surface 32 and an overlying plastic sheet 36 with die cut partial fold tabs 16 therein, and with a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive 34 between the two sheets. The tabs include two printable areas of substantially equal size 18, 20 and a securing area 20 extending from one of the printable areas. The securing area has a narrow strip area 56 adjacent the printable area which is free from adhesive. In use, the tabs are removed from the liner, the two printable areas are folded together, and the resultant step or lip and the adhesive free area cooperate to facilitate accurate placement of the index tab.
Abstract:
Index tabs having a mechanism for alignment with an edge of a mounting sheet, and methods for making and using the same. Embodiments exemplary of the alignment mechanism include various stopper constructions (112, 306, 716), pocket constructions (108, 715), and the like. For example, a pocket can be formed within an index tab (101), such that the pocket contains an opening at the bottom for receiving an edge of a mounting sheet. The edge of the mounting sheet becomes aligned with the index tab when it fully engages the top of the pocket, which acts as a stopper. After alignment is achieved, the index tab is adhered to the mounting sheet. Various shapes and materials that are beneficial in the new tab constructions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An index tab label assembly (10) using a label (12) having a coating (22) that facilitates printing on the label (12). Each label (12) is made out of a polyester film (20) having a pressure-sensitive adhesive (18) attached to one side of the film (20) and a coating (22) comprising aluminum oxide, resin chips, methyl ethyl ketone, and toluene, applied to the other side of the film (20). The coating (22) provides good anchorage for toner, abrasive resistance for writing, and electrostatic properties that facilitate printing when using laser or xerographic equipment. The printed label (12) is attached by the pressure-sensitive adhesive (18) directly to a tab (27) of a divider or file to make an index tab (28), or to a tab reinforcer (26) attached to the tab (27).
Abstract:
Disclosed is a tabbed divider making apparatus (20) adapted for use with smaller, more individualized jobs. The apparatus (20) includes a paper feeder, a film provider (30), a knife package (70) for shearing a portion a pivotable arm (82), at feast one spring (74), and a cam (78) having an oblong shape. The rotation of the cam (78) causes movement between loaded and unloaded positions of the spring (74), which causes the knife package (70) to shear the paper. Also disclosed is a removable film cartridge (128) that includes a housing (130), a roll of film (132), one or more rollers (142a, 142b), a creasing finger (138), and two or more opposed extensions (140a, 140b, 147a, 147b) for folding the film (131).
Abstract:
The reinforced file folder has a paper substrate (4) which is reinforced with a breathable film (12) having desirable properties with respect to wear. Preferably, the film (12) is a cellulous based material adhered to the paper substrate (4) in a manner that renders the product easily recycled. The cellulose film with a matte finished upper surface provides strong adhesion with file folder labels (36). The film preferably covers most of the outer surface of the front and back panels with the film applied either side of the labeling tab (24).
