Abstract:
The invention is directed to a zinc-free lubricating composition for an internal combustion engine containing a phosphorus anti-wear agent, an ashless antioxidant, and a metal-free basic detergent. The lubricating composition provides wear protection, deposit control, and improved acid control with reduced levels of metal -containing additives.

Abstract:
The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 wt % to 10 wt % of an oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound, wherein the aromatic compound has at least one alkoxy group represented by -OR 1 group, R 1 is hydroxyalkyl, or a (poly)ether group, and either: at least one hydroxyl group, or at least one alkoxy group represented by -OR 1 group, where R 1 is alkyl, or a (poly)ether group, or at least one oxyalkyl group represented by -OR 1 , where R 1 is hydroxyalkyl or a (poly)ether group. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with the lubricating composition. The disclosed technology further relates to the use of the oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound in the lubricating composition to a passenger car internal combustion engine at least one of (i) control of fuel economy, (ii) control of corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) control of bore wear.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology provides alkylphenol-containing detergent having at least one unit (a) of an alkyl-substituted phenol wherein the alkyl group is derived from oligomers of an olefin compound containing 3 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein the polyolefin-derived alkyl group comprises at least 30 mol percent of an olefin with 4 or more carbon atoms. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 wt % to 15 wt % of a protic acid salt of an N-hydrocarbyl-substituted gamma- (γ-) or delta- (δ-) amino(thio)ester. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
Provided are a viscosity modifier for lubricating oils for obtaining an additive composition for lubricating oils having excellent fluidity in a wide temperature range from low temperature to high temperature; and said additive composition for lubricating oils. Further provided are a viscosity modifier for lubricating oils for obtaining a lubricating oil composition capable of reducing viscosity in good balance in a wide temperature range from low temperature to high temperature; and said lubricating oil composition. The viscosity modifier for lubricating oils includes an ethylene α-olefin copolymer (A) which includes 30 to 50 mole% of structural units derived from at least one α-olefin selected from α-olefins having 4 and 5 carbon atoms and 50 to 70 mole% of structural units derived from ethylene (with the proviso that the total of all structural units of said copolymer is 100 mole%) and which satisfies specific requirements (a), (b), and (c).
Abstract:
Lubricant composition comprising a dicarboxylic acid ester component which is selected from di-isononyladipate and di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate, and ethylene-propylene copolymer, and a monocarboxylic acids ester.
Abstract:
A composition made by admixing a major amount of base oils of lubricating viscosity and minor amounts of additives. The additives can include a viscosity modifier, a dispersant, a friction modifier, an anti-oxidant, a suppressant, a tackifier, and thickeners. The dispersant can be a dissolved powered styrene-ethylene/propylene-block copolymer and the thickeners can be fumed silicia. The dispersants and the thickeners are pulverized and dissolved in the composition to provide for inhibition of oil separation during storage.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a dispersant treated with cobalt reagent. The invention further relates to methods of lubricating an internal combustion engine by supplying the described lubricating composition to the internal combustion engine. The invention further relates to the use of a dispersant treated with cobalt to reduce deposits on the inner surfaces of engine components.
