Abstract:
Abstract:
A braiding machine in which spools wound with tensile elements are mounted on carriages that are disposed on a rotor track around the perimeter of the braiding machine. The perimeter of the braiding machine is non-circular, such that the area enclosed by the perimeter of the non-circular braiding machine is substantially less than the area enclosed by a circular braiding machine having a perimeter of the same length as the perimeter of the non-circular braiding machine.
Abstract:
Safety hoses protected by wire mesh and an apparatus for manufacturing them are disclosed. The hose assembly has an inner flexible tube, wrapped with two helices made of ribbons of woven, wire mesh. An outer flexible tube is fitted over the helixes. The ribbon is woven from metal fibers having a diameter of less than 0.20 mm and open apertures of less than 0.45 mm. The ribbon is preferably made of bias-cut material and the pitch of the helixes is such that the warp threads of the ribbons overlap at an angle between 15 and 33 degrees. Alternately the hose may be ribbon braided, having two or more ribbons of woven wire mesh braided together over the inner tube. A modified "May pole" braiding machine to accomplish such ribbon braiding is disclosed.
Abstract:
A machine and method for applying braid by means of a braiding machine to a mandrel, where the mandrel has a shape that approximates a wheel but has an irregularly varying radius of curvature. The machine includes drive/positioning wheel assemblies that are used to continuously reposition a cross-section of the mandrel relative to the braiding machine such that a center point of cross-section of the mandrel is maintained to be coaxial with a braiding point of the braiding machine as the mandrel (18) is rotationally advanced by the drive/positioning wheel assemblies. Repositioning of the drive/positioning wheel assemblies is controlled by a computer numerical control (CNC) controller, based on information describing one or more radiuses of curvature for sections of the mandrel and a current position of the mandrel relative to the drive/positioning wheel assemblies.
Abstract:
A method for temporary or permanent stopping of an elongated body where a sleeve of cables is braided around the elongated body and that the cables are held so that the sleeve is tightened around the elongated body by the force pulling the elongated body. A device for carrying out the method is also described.
Abstract:
A braiding machine and method of forming an upper that includes braiding over a forming last that passes from a first side of a braiding point to a second side of the braiding point. The braiding machine being capable of forming intricate braided structures.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a device for braiding fibers into a braided structure, the device comprising a braiding machine, comprising a continuous track plate, a forming device, comprising a forming ring, a braiding mandrel about which the braiding machine braids at least one layer of the braided structure, and positioning means to effectuate relative movement of the mandrel and the braiding machine during braiding. The continuous track plate and/or the forming ring are build up of at least two parts that may be separated and reattached to each other, the parts being arranged such as to allow the track plate and/or the forming ring to enclose the mandrel. The invention further relates to a method for braiding fibers into a braided structure.
