Abstract:
A drum (200) configured for permanent installation in an outdoor environment is presented. The drum (200) comprises a mounting structure (206) configured to permanently engage a mounting surface in the outdoor environment. The drum (200) also comprises a shell (204) coupled to the mounting structure (206). The drum (200) also comprises a drum head (202) coupled to the shell (204) through use of a plurality of fasteners (212). The drum head (202) comprises a tuned configuration. The drum structure (200) is configured to be weather resistant. The drum head (202) is configured to maintain the tuning configuration after a period of outdoor exposure.
Abstract:
Abstract:
An idiophone musical instrument (20) has at least one agogo bell (22) and a handle (70) or bracket. The bell has an oval, elliptical or rounded shape with a pair of slits (32), and is formed of plastic. Mounting construction for the bell includes a multisided aperture (40) formed in the bell's body and a mating multisided stem (72) extending from the handle (70) or bracket. The mounting construction prevents twisting even during playing, and permits a choice of different physical orientations of playing positions of the bell (22).
Abstract:
A first vessel provided in spaced nested relation to and at least partially around a second vessel or member, the first vessel having a bottom section coupled to a sidewall to form a liquid receiving receptacle open at an upper end of the sidewall. Further provided is liquid in the liquid receiving receptacle. The second vessel or member is moveable relative to the first vessel to displace and/or replace the liquid in the first vessel such that the first vessel can produce different pitches and/or tones as or after the liquid is displaced and/or replaced and the first vessel is struck, rubbed or otherwise vibrated.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a musical instrument component is designed by defining a curvature of a surface of the component as a spline curve, setting target frequencies for the component, and optimizing the spline curve so that the component produces the target frequencies.
Abstract:
A pitched percussion idiophone instrument comprising first and second support members (12, 14) which interconnected, a plurality of hollow tubes (20), the tubes being parallel and having a pair of apertures (26, 28) towards each end (22, 24), first and second strings (34, 36) extending through the apertures (26, 28), pins (30) located on each of the first and second support members (12, 14) intermediate the hollow tubes (20) such that the strings (34, 36) are supported by pins (30), the arrangement being such that the hollow tubes (20) are suspended above said support members (12, 14) by the first and second strings (34, 36).
Abstract:
A hand-held percussive shaker assembly comprising two identical shakers capable of producing different percussive sounds and rhythms in a single assembly is disclosed. The shakers are detachably connected by an integrally formed lock assembly. The shakers may be played as a single assembly or detached and played individually. Each shaker comprises one or more bottles filled with a striker material. Each bottle isolates its striker material from the striker material in other bottles and from any other part of the shaker. The shakers may produce the same or different tones when the shaker assembly is moved.
Abstract:
An ensemble of acoustic steelpan musical instruments, being an innovation which significantly improves upon traditional acoustic steelpan prior art. Said improvements include an extension of note range across the assemblage of G-Pans, a substantial reduction in the number of steelpans required to effectively cover the steelpan musical range, the use of a compound design whereby individual component parts of the instrument, specifically the playing surface, chime, rear attachment, or skirt and the playing stick or mallet, are optimized for thier specific function, the application of a variety of techniques for eliminating or reducing, non-musical sympathetic vibrations and the inclusion of a variety of mechanical and acoustic resonator designs, to enhance optimally, the sound projection of the aforementioned instrument.
Abstract:
According to some aspects, a cymbal system is provided comprising a cymbal, and a percussion instrument magnetically coupled to the cymbal, said magnetic coupling between the percussion instrument and the cymbal provided at least in part by at least one first magnetic component disposed on a lower side of the cymbal, and at least one second magnetic component disposed on an upper side of the cymbal and attached to the percussion instrument, the at least one first magnetic component and at least one second magnetic component being coupled to the cymbal, at least in part, by a magnetic force of attraction between the at least one first magnetic component and the at least one second magnetic component that acts through the cymbal.
