An optical pickup actuator for low building height includes a suspended lensholder (101) with a lenssystem (102), focusing (106a, 106b, 106c 106d) and tracking coils (109) and magnets (107a, 107b, 107c) for cooperation with the focusing and tracking coils. The focusing and tracking coils may be arranged for tilting the lensholder in the actuator. The lowest entrance position for a radiation beam to enter a beam entrance (113) at a side of the actuator is not determined by the height and location of the coils.
Abstract:
An optical pickup unit for an optical disk drive, comprises a lens holder (27) including a lens having an optical axis, suspension wire members (33 - 36) suspend the lens holder (27) in a support frame in a cantilever fashion. The wire members constrain movement of the lens holder relative to the support frame, but allowing at least a translation in a focussing or axial direction (z) , parallel to the optical axis of a lens in the lens holder (27). The wire members are fixed to the lens holder in positions at a distance from each other at least in focussing and tracking directions (z, x). The wire members are bent around an axis parallel to the radial direction (x) so as to allow an at least limited rotation about an axis in a tracking or radial direction (x) as well. In this way, an active alpha tilt correction is made possible with simple means.

An optical pickup device and optical disk device are provided realizing at least one of thickness reduction, size reduction and suppression against characteristic deterioration even where coping with various wavelengths including a blue laser. An optical pickup comprises light sources of a plurality of wavelengths, unit structured for causing at least a part of the light emitted from the sources to pass a same optical path; and focusing unit. The focusing unit includes at least first and second parts, the first part being to focus a wavelength different from a wavelength to be focused by the second part.

An objective lend driver (8) comprising a supporting block (9), a movable block (10) for holding an objective lens (27), and supporting springs (22, 22, ...) for coupling the supporting block and the movable block is provided, as the components of the supporting block, with a section (11) secured to a moving base (7) movable in the radial direction of a disc-like recording medium (100), a supporting shaft (12) having the axial direction orthogonal to both the focusing direction and the tracking direction, a tilt drive section (13) supported rotatably at the secured section through the supporting shaft and coupled with the movable block through the supporting springs, and tilt driving magnetic circuits (20, 20) for rotating the tilt drive section about the secured section.
