A close-down pop reduction system and a method for close-down pop reduction in an audio amplifier assembly are disclosed. The switching power conversion system comprises a forward path having a compensator and a switching power stage and a signal path from an output of a comparator in the switching power stage to a sequence control unit. The signal path includes a close-down timing circuit configured to provide a timing signal. The sequence control unit is configured to eliminate the input signal, increase the switch frequency of the close-down pop reduction system and disable the switching power stage at a moment in time within a PWM pulse of the switching power stage. Hereby, it is e.g. possible to minimize the audible pop during close- down of audio amplifier assemblies.

Radio frequency (RF) transmitter circuitry, which includes an RF power amplifier (PA) and an envelope tracking power supply, is disclosed. The RF PA receives and amplifies an RF input signal to provide an RF transmit signal using an envelope power supply signal. The envelope tracking power supply provides the envelope power supply signal, which has switching ripple. Further, the envelope tracking power supply operates in either a normal switching ripple mode or a modified switching ripple mode, such that during the normal switching ripple mode, the envelope power supply signal has normal switching ripple, and during the modified switching ripple mode, the envelope power supply signal has modified switching ripple. When the modified switching ripple is required, the envelope tracking power supply operates in the modified switching ripple mode.

An amplifier (100, 300) comprises a main amplification stage (40) and an auxiliary amplification stage (50). An input of the main amplification stage (40) and an input of the auxiliary amplification stage (50) are coupled to a common node (30), and an output of the main amplification stage (40) is coupled to an output node (20). During activation, before power is supplied to the main amplification stage (40), the output node (30) is coupled to a reference voltage (V REF ). A quiescent voltage is then established at the common node (30) by coupling power to the auxiliary amplification stage (50). Only then is power coupled to the main amplification stage (40) and the reference voltage (V REF ) de-coupled from the output node (20).

A signal processor comprises a reference voltage circuit (RVC) for imposing a reference voltage (VR) onto a capacitance (Cr). The reference voltage circuit (RVC) comprises a negative slope module (NSM) for providing a negative slope signal (SN), which has a magnitude that decreases when a voltage that is present on the capacitance (Cr) increases. A positive slope module (PSM) provides a positive slope signal (SP), which has a magnitude that increases when the voltage that is present on the capacitance (Cr) increases. A minimum selection module (MSM) controls a maximum current (IMX) that the reference voltage circuit (RVC) can apply to the capacitance (Cr) substantially in dependence on the negative slope signal (SN), if the magnitude of the negative slope signal (SN) is smaller than that of the positive slope signal (SP). The minimum selection module (MSM) controls the maximum current substantially in dependence on the positive slope signal (SP), if the magnitude of the positive slope signal (SP) is smaller than that of the negative slope signal (SN).

A method of minimizing an audible click noise from a speaker in a Class D audio power amplifier upon shutdown or startup of a switching stage having two switches series connected at a node, the speaker being connected to the node via an output filter comprising an inductor and a capacitor, the switches being controlled by a controller. The method including the steps of determining a timing interval at the node to transition a peak voltage of the capacitor, the capacitor voltage being a speaker voltage; and eliminating the audible transient voltage excursion across the speaker that causes a click noise during the timing interval, wherein at startup ON and OFF times of the switches are incrementally increased from zero to a normal mode and at shutdown the ON OFF times of the switches are incrementally decreased from the normal mode to zero.

A system and method of optimizing the output power of a power amplifier to maintain satisfactory RF response under varying power amplifier operating conditions. The operating conditions include operating temperature, supply voltage, and operating frequency. Existing sensors monitor the aforementioned operating conditions (510, 520, 530). An application within the wireless device containing the power amplifier continuously or periodically logs the current operating conditions and finds them (540) in a look-up table (550) stored internally. The look-up table (550) is comprised of empirically derived maximum sustainable power output levels for each operating condition. Once the current operating conditions are matched to a set in the table, current power amplifier power output is reset, if necessary, to the maximum sustainable power output defined in the table (570).

An audio amplification device includes an input (11) for receiving an input audio signal (VIN) and an output (12) for delivering an output audio signal (VOUT) and an amplifier (OA1) comprising a differential pair of MOS transistors. The gate of the first transistor is coupled to the input of the device. The gate of the second MOS transistor receives a reference voltage (VREF) which takes the form of a rising ramp when the power is turned on. The drain of one of the transistors is coupled to the output. The amplifier also includes a biasing circuitry for biasing the bulk of the transistors to a first voltage level approximately equal to a supply voltage at the beginning of the reference voltage ramp, and to a second voltage level (V BB ) approximately equal to the voltage of their source (BB) at the end of the ramp. The generation of a pop is thus avoided when the power is turned on, while still benefiting from an optimum PSRR in the normal operation phase.
