Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for supporting customer charging in 5G networks are provided. Monitoring functions are instantiated at selected network locations for tracking access to network services. The monitoring functions provide charging information for use in customer billing. A customer can enter a service level agreement with a particular customized method of charging for service usage, and the monitoring functions can be customized to provide charging information according to the service level agreement. Charging can vary based on factors such as time of day, network congestion, service traffic characteristics, and geographic location.
Abstract:
A network entity for use in a communication network, the network entity comprising a processing resource that is configured to obtain information indicative of a quality of experience on a user terminal in communication with the communication network; and to control the communication to the user terminal based on the obtained information indicative of a quality of experience.
Abstract:
A flow tagging technique includes tagging a data flow at a plurality of points in the data flow. For example, the data flow can be tagged at a socket and at a proxy manager API. By tagging the data flow at multiple points, it becomes possible to map network service usage activities to the appropriate initiating applications.
Abstract:
A method for modifying a quality of a connection between a terminal (110) and an application server (108) of a network (100) is described. The application server (108) provides a service to the terminal (110) via the connection. The method comprises sending (122), by the terminal (110), a quality modification request for a desired modification of a quality of the provided service, and determining (128), by the network (100), a condition of the connection to be modified based on the quality modification request. The determined condition to be modified is associated with the quality of the provided service. The method comprises determining (134), by the network (100), a charging price for the determined condition of the connection to be modified, modifying (160), by the network (100), a condition of the connection, and charging (166), by the network (100), for modifying the condition of the connection. Therefore a high quality of service experience of a user of the terminal in association with the service provision of the service by the application server of the network may be enabled.
Abstract:
A system and method that facilitates mobile device selection among available qualities of service is described herein. A telecommunications network sends a notification to a mobile device when a change in quality of service is available to the mobile device. The mobile device then enables selection of an upgrade or downgrade to the current quality of service. In response to a selection, the mobile device transmits to the telecommunications network the change in quality of service. The telecommunications network then adjusts the quality of service in accordance with the request.
Abstract:
The invention proposes a method and device for controlling QoS and/or policy and charging control of a guest user. The method proposes an innovative solution to extend the current policy and charging control architecture and online charging system to dynamically control the data connection of third party application services over network operator's network. This enables network operator and third party application provider to jointly provide QoS control service based on end user service usage limit.
Abstract:
A mobile computing device that supports cost-aware application components for operation over a metered network. A current basis for computing usage charges over one or more networks may be made available to the cost-aware application components through an application programming interface supported by an operating system service. That service may receive a policy for charging for data usage over a network and may also obtain information defining data usage for the mobile computing device. Based on this information, the service may determine a current basis for charging for data usage. With this information, the application component can determine a manner for executing network operations that involve data transmission over the network, such as deferring the operation or selecting an alternative network.
